Wimbledon 2015 Day 07
Well yesterday certainly provided us with some upsets/disappointments/shocks both for the tournament generally and for me personally.
On the positive front Andy and Roger both went safely through, even if they did both take four sets to do so.
However, Tsonga, Monfils and James Ward all went out. Ward was in a winning position, being two sets to one up and was playing well. However, in the end his opponent upped his game, James's game fell off a bit and he went out in five sets. Still it was a good performance and again I really hope he can build on this and the rest of his year is a good one.
Dustin Brown, the chap who ousted Rafa, proved just why he is a triple digit player as his game yesterday wasn't anywhere near as brilliant and on-song as it had been against Rafa. He made some excellent shots, but they were few and far between.
On the ladies side two of my favourite ladies went through - Aga and Caro. Well a third did as well Jelena, however, that was at the expense of my favourite Petra Kvitova. Jelena ousting the current Wimbledon champion and number two seed was the big shock of the day and the biggest shock of the tournament thus far. Sabine Lisicki, another player I was following, also went out.
So overall whilst I'm glad some people got through, yesterday personally wasn't the best day for me as far as my favourite players went.
There isn't any tennis today. One of Wimbledon's many 'traditions' is not to play on the 'middle' Sunday, unlike all the other grand slam. They give all players a day off and have 'manic Monday' tomorrow where all the fourth round single matches are played, thus it makes for a hectic day and if it rains a chaotic one as well! It is a tradition I confess I do not like.
Thus tomorrow will definitely be a day of trying to decide which match to watch and probably 'match hopping' if, as is the case, two people I want to watch are playing at the same time and both matches are being shown.
