Wonwoo/Chaeyoung, hinted Wonwoo/Sana

a/n: a short piece based on that svtwice shopping mall au hannah, sapphy, yun and i discussed..... last year. the original idea was cuter and funnier but i'm depressing so
Chaeyoung works at a bookstore that has more books than she can ever memorize, all stacked neatly on the tall racks that feel twice her height sometimes. It's located at the second floor of the mall, slightly away from where the crowds are usually concentrated at, and sandwiched between a small store selling musical instruments and Hamley’s, which takes up three stores’ space and steals most spotlight whenever family with kids stroll by.
She doesn't mind, actually, because the plenty of leisure time means she can have the shop all to herself. Even when there are no books to shelf or restock, she likes to walk around, and sometimes catching glimpses of her coworker behind the shelfs. Wonwoo.
Unlike her, he remembers almost all the books they have at the store, and can even explain them if asked. Sometimes she asks him about books she doesn't even have interest in, just because she likes to hear him talk about them. Otherwise, he doesn't talk much usually, only smiles when he meets her gaze.
On some days, he wears glasses to work. Wire framed circles that really make him look like he belongs at a bookstore. He’s had them for about three years, apparently, and the prescription doesn't match anymore. But he can't be bothered to have them replaced, so he squints his eyes or goes closer to get a better look of something.
On those days, Chaeyoung takes more chances. Behind the counter, she sits and stares at him with her sketchbook open and a pencil between her fingers. Unlike him, she knows more paintings than books and can talk about art all day long. He listens to her talk about her favourite artists sometimes, and she would show him her favourite works from the few art books they have at the store, although she doesn't know how interested he really is in them. But he wears a soft smile every time that makes her heart clench.
On the days when he doesn't wear glasses, when he sees better and, in his opinion, looks better, he always lingers near the entrance. Across of the bookstore is a bridal boutique, and a certain girl works there. Just as Chaeyoung likes to gaze at him, Wonwoo likes to gaze at the girl.
Chaeyoung heard from Chan, who heard from Dahyun who heard from Hansol who overheard Soonyoung talking with Seungcheol who's friends with Dowoon who works at the arcade, that Wonwoo spends a lot of time there trying to win something from a particular machine. He never told anyone what it is, but one evening when Chaeyoung goes there, she can tell right away what exactly he's aiming for.
“Here,” she says one afternoon, just after he clocks in. They're standing in between children and young adult racks, surrounded by fairy tales and fantasies and stories of first loves and heartbreaks. That's where she found him.
He blinks at the stuffed bunny doll she's holding out. “What's it for?” he asks. He's wearing his glasses today, so he stands closer to her to take a good look at the doll.
“I won it from the arcade, and you seem the type to like rabbits.”
Other people would have frowned, but he only laughs. “I do,” he says. “You don't?”
She shakes her head. “I like foxes more,” she tells him, and he laughs again before accepting the gift and thanking her.
Several days later, she hears again from Chan who heard directly from Dowoon this time, that Wonwoo has stopped coming to the arcade. A couple of weeks later, she sees him with a bouquet of baby's breath walking over to the bridal boutique to finally ask the girl out.
Chaeyoung buys a new sketchbook, and thinks maybe it's time to stop drawing foxes with round glasses.
