Do you knit faster or slower to make your yarn last?

What a weekend! We got to see John Carter (much more faithful to the book than I expected! Fabulous clothes! Bald characters!), and picnic in Duke Gardens (flowers! More flowers! Photoshoot thinkings!). And I got to row 160 on Maiglockchen! And, since I've promised... wait. Did I say I was going to show it to you every 10 rows, or 50 rows? I bet it was 50. Oh well! You can look at these, anyway!

Here is a leaf, and on the far right, two and a half lily of the valley flowers. I'm about halfway through the second band of flowers. Which leads to this frightening picture:

Hm. Look at how wimpy that ball of yarn is getting. I'm about 2 rows away from the 50% mark, and I'm not sure I've still got 50% of my yarn left. And I'm not sure if I can get another skein... I'm pretty lost as to what to do... Keep going until I run out of yarn, I suppose... then go find the Skaska booth at SAFF this year and beg? I was sure 1650 yards of yarn would be enough...
