Princess Sock!

So, last night was a night of finishing! First, I wove in the ends on one Christmas present! Yay! Of course, I can't show you that, yet.

But I also finished the first of my Glass Slipper socks (Pretty Pretty Princess Socks in my Rav projects). These are some lovely socks, but... Well. I know the pattern is free, but it seems rather slapdash for a magazine pattern. The middle section of charts are reversed, it tells you to knit two fewer rows than it actually needs before starting the third chart (you need to shift the cables one more row, so that there's actually only 2 purls between the charts, rather than 4), and actually includes the line "Repeat Rows 1 and 2 an additional 9 times, ending on a WS row. I think this should be 9 times, as in the heel flap will be 20 rows long - is that correct?" But! Even I can figure out what is supposed to be going on, so I guess it's not too bad. And the resulting sock is very very princessy!

In other news, there has been a bit of a setback on the Maikell Shawl. I was knitting along on it during the Thanksgiving break, when I came to an unexpected break in the yarn. It was a surprise, as I'd wound the yarn from a hank into a ball at the start of the project, and hadn't seen a break then. So, I looked closer, and saw another break in the ball. I got out my ballwinder and started winding, and this is what I ended up with. It about made me sick! I can't prove anything, but I'm pretty sure that Arioch, my wool-loving kitty, had a lot to do with this. I have a backup plan, but, well. That's why my princess socks have gotten so much attention lately. (Yes, I have another Christmas project, but that's in time out right now, too.)

In better news, we have our Christmas tree up! It makes me so happy to see it! I love it! Of course, the cats have claimed it as their own, and we wake up with all the lower ornaments on the floor, but we've learned, and they're all softies or generic ball ornaments, so it's ok :)

Also, all these pictures were taken by my new camera! It's pretty much just the latest version of my old camera, but it's nice to have a working one again!
