Crafty Thursday

Yesterday was a day for catching up. I've been falling behind in everything ever since I lost my Fridays! I miss my three day weekend! I didn't catch up all the way, but I made some progress.

The main thing I did was finally finish those boxes that I promised Annie ages ago! And gave her an IOU for at her baby shower two weeks ago. The outside fabric is a pretty unassuming green-dots-on-cream pattern (Although it has a good story, as this is the fabric that I fought a woman to the death for to get the last of it at Joanns! (we didn't really fight, but she graciously gave me one yard out of her project, since it is no longer produced.)). The inside is a rad dinosaur fabric! I found a bit of it for sale at the local theater's annual costume sale. Hooray! They didn't have a lot, so I'm glad there was enough for these boxes!

They're sewn with two layers of heavyweight 71F fusible interfacing on the inside. Man, I love this stuff! I can see many uses for it in the future!

The other crafty thing I did (other than the one row on my sock I knit while in the doctor's office for a checkup -- they're too efficient there! I never get knitting done!) was sort of anti-crafty. I picked all the stitches out of a tie and ripped off the interfacing ironed to it. That was the method touted by the online tutorial I was following, but even the featherweight interfacing resulted in a stiff, unnatural tie. I'm going to follow the methods my friend used while making my husband's wedding tie. Now that is a lovely tie, and is beautifully made! (Everything she makes is beautiful! I just never appreciated it like I should have!) We'll see if this is fixable!
