The NHL has been back for over a year, yes, but are the fans really and truly back?

Watching the Blues game in Chicago right now, in between half-innings of the WS. The puck's going back and forth, it's 2-2 in the 2nd period, people are getting off shots and saves and being crunched into the boards . . . and you could almost think you're at a funeral, the crowd is so quiet through it all. Before the lockout, you'd hear the fans roaring and moaning and applauding at much of the stuff I listed above. Double for a big rivalry like St. Louis vs. Chicago. And yet the fans are so quiet, I have to keep checking the virtual scoreboard in the corner of the screen to reassure myself that no, this isn't some cheesy little college or high school game. (The lack of rink-level TV shots might have something to do with causing that effect as well.)

It really is unsettling.
