What Mélanie thinks of the ghouls is totally up to you. When she thinks about the situation later, she might regret not helping to feed them. Or she might not. Or she might regret not killing them. Or something completely different. Whatever she thinks and feels, she probably has lots of different and maybe even conflicting reasons for it. Just don't think that you played her wrong, because you didn't. Maybe your character made a bad decision, but that just makes things interesting. Everyone makes bad decisions sometimes and then we just have to deal with the consequences. Or then it might not have been a bad decision. The way she acted might have been exactly the right thing for her.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't worry too much about what she should be. Just play her the way it seems most natural and she'll grow and develop and become a personality of her own. And then she might start worrying about not being what she thinks she should be, and that's when the fun really starts. :D
