The roof of Empire Records and Bidet had been . . . decorated. There were Chinese lantern string lights draped over the giant letters of the lit sign, with a picnic blanket set up with a fondue set on a tripod beneath it. Nadia had eaten all of her cookies. She'd practiced her guitar. She'd fed and played with Furrball, and had worked on her lines, and had done pretty much everything except open the package she'd gotten that day.

But she couldn't put that off forever, and her curiosity finally took over. She opened the package.
