Been thinking about writing here a lot lately.  I need to get back to it.  Morning pages only stuck for 2 months, but it was so helpful, really put me in a good place for the start of the day.  Getting up early proved difficult, though.  So maybe I can work this in there somehow, too.  For days I just can't get up in time to write before "work."  ( Read more... )

I enjoy Facebook because it allows me to stay in touch with schoolmates and music people and relatives I might otherwise not stay in touch with without it. I believe, though, that Facebook will eventually be replaced by things more peer-to-peer and less old-fashioned than the facebook approach. I don't mind the "like" button, because sometimes folks just need a thumbs up.

For all the desertion of livejournal, I like its full circle feel. In 2002, when I journaled, I did not worry about having lots of readers. I had a few friends who read from my offline life, and met some friends here. Later, it was heady when so many people were so intertwined here. But that was clearly a vogue that would pass. Now a few folks participate regularly, and writing is more an individual thing.

The other day on LinkedIn I got one of those odd "x is now on LinkedIn" about a livejournal friends from years ago. We'd stopped reading one another long ago, and I had forgotten her surname. It was amusing to suddenly get that burst of memory probably because her e-mail directory got mined to send out some form notice on LinkedIn.

I kinda like twitter, because it is less about friends lists and profundities, and more about fleeting glimpses of big and little ideas.
