Yesterday was the first step in my plan to accomplish my final cross-country before my Commercial 1 stage check. The cross-country requires me to fly into Williams Gateway, a busy, towered airport underneath Phoenix's airspace. My problem is that I'm not very comfortable dealing with air traffic control, so I need to take steps to get comfortable with it. To that end, Erin and I flew to Libby (the airport in Sierra Vista) yesterday afternoon, and I talked to ATC long enough to do 3 touch-and-go's and get out of town. All told it went pretty well. I only needed Erin's help a couple times. But the fact that I needed her help at all means I need more experience before Gateway, so we're going back to Libby tomorrow morning and to Tucson on Friday morning. If both of those ATC experiences go well, I'll be making my solo to Gateway early next week. As always, all 3 of these proposed flights are in God's hands, and all I can do is trust that His will be done.
