Films - Taken & Shutter

Watched Taken the other day; it was both satisfying and down-right frustrating. While Liam Neeson plays his role with a cold ruthlessness that makes me cheer and clap, I was often left frustrated by the treatment of the victims in the film. All those poor girls, forced to be prostitutes and no one fucking caring. Not the government, not their family, and not even our damn ‘hero’ cared about what happened to them. It was utterly frustrating that the film didn’t touch on what happened to all the girls in the house, the ones that was on the yacht. Where they returned to their families or were they left to die? Also, the whole virgin thing; I felt like fucking strangling the writer. Yes, let’s make virginity for young girls a MYSTICAL thing that MUST be preserved in order to save your life. What. The. Fuck. Ever.

Let’s just say I kept on repeating to myself that it isn’t a thinking film, it was a simple action/vengeance film, though it still made me fairly angry at the writers at times. Fucking lazy writing.

In conclusion; not a bad film, from an action/vengeance film angle it does amazingly well. The unresolved questions and the complete uncaring attitude of the main hero for all the other victims but his daughter soured the whole experience for me. So, worth watching, but if you are a woman who is very aware of gender issues than you may want to watch it with the aid of alcohol.

Also watched the American version of Shutter. Getting bored with white, blonde girl exploring the 'mystical' and 'alien' Asian culture crap. Get the fuck over it. And like the Grudge the whole film could have been 30 minutes shorter and it wouldn't have made a difference to the plot. In conclusion, boring.
