Like life I guess

Tonight I visited Theresa like I always do on Tuesdays. She was in really great spirits and I felt so good to be there. We talked about my new guitar and she got pretty excited when I told her I'd bring it with me next week - providing I've gotten a case already. I love her so much and I know we're on borrowed time so I try to make the most of these days when her spirits are good and she's happy and not in some kind of pain.

My guitar lessons start on the 18th. My friend Michele is going to take the class with me and that should be pretty fun, except that she's probably way ahead of me in terms of what she already knows, so of course I'm bound to look and feel like a dunce compared to her. Regardless, I am looking forward to being able to make music by myself one day. My guitar is even prettier than the picture shows!!

Theresa and I watched a very disturbing television show while we were waiting for "Dancing With The Stars" to come on. I don't think she was aware of what it was all about because the volume was turned low and I'm not sure she heard everything, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about what I saw.

Caution: Unpleasant!!

We were watching the animal channel, and the show was about a female lion who had adopted a fawn that was lost from its mother. Researchers were photographing the unlikely pair and were amazed at the friendship that had developed.

The narrator talked about how the lion and the fawn were starving to death because the lion had to protect the fawn and couldn't leave it alone to hunt for herself. The fawn was too young to eat anything but its mother's milk, and of course the lion couldn't provide that. As the show progressed, they both became more starved and more weak. I wondered why the people photographing and folling the pair did not try do something to feed them. They were so skinny and pathetic, yet they were both so loving toward each other.

I wanted to turn the show off, but yet I wanted to know what would happen. It was horrible, yet I couldn't turn away. And then I felt my stomach sink as I listened to the narrator saying that the tired and hungry lion took a small nap and didn't notice the fawn wandering away.

Of course you can guess what happened next. A male lion from a nearby pride had been following the lion and her baby fawn. As soon as he saw an opportunity to steal the fawn away, that's exactly what he did. The poor fawn's cries were weak, but of course frantic as he called to his lion friend for help. She, too tired and weak herself, could only pace back and forth as the male licked and licked the little fawn before ripping his little body apart.

Eventually the cries ceased, but to be honest, I swear I can still hear them.... As the lion walked away with his meal I couldn't believe what I had just seen.

It was a different kind of a night. Lots of really neat stuff with Theresa, but then there was the whole animal channel show.... . Like life I guess... good and bad... .
