Post the Eight-Hundred and Sixty-Fourth - New Year, Old Fic

Jan 01, 2011 13:24

I spent last night with old friends - ones I have known for ages and ones that I haven't seen in ages.

Right now I have a mug of brewed in a pot tea and 2011 is looking pretty good (even if I just got an e-mail from my teacher saying I only got a 79 on my last assignment).

Last week marcasite posted this meme on her journal and now I am shamelessly copying it.

01. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?:
Definitely less. But there was a bunch of RL stuff that totally took me out of writing for a long time, so looking back I'm kind of surprised that I wrote as much as I did.

02. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?:
I did RPF, which is something that I generally don't even read (we'll over look that Prince William stage when I was in high school).

03. What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?:
“The Grinding Down”. I've only posted one part so far, but I have fallen in love with Hope and I really need to find the time to fully explore her world.

04. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?:
This year's NaNo story was a total crap shoot that ending up paying off big time. I did sub plots and wrote from a dog's POV. I learned to let myself go and not take my writing so seriously.

05. Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?:
Finish my WIP's.

06. From my past year of writing, what was...
My Best Story:
My NaNoWriMo story. Once it spends some time with an editor, it will rock.

Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:
The Grinding Down

Most Popular:
Mad DT Skills, Sexy Freckles & Waterloo. This was a prompt challenge and I just went wild with it.

Most Fun:
Let Your Fingers Do the Talking. I love the idea that I got to say all kinds of nasty things, but since the character was using sign, I didn't really say it.

Most Disappointing:
Easy as One, Two, Three. It was a remix challenge and I just didn't like any of the stories, so I just through something together.

Most Sexy:
Ride a White Horse. I really tried for a just under the surface simmer, and I think I got it.

Story With The Single Sweetest Moment:
From (surprise, surprise) The Grinding Down:
The only ones who keep her name alive were the diamond girls from the casino (Jack had never bothered to ask what it was); they would slip into her room and say, “I'm seeking Hope”. The hope the girls sought came in two forms, bottles of Serenity and letters from home smuggled in and out of the casino (she always handled those letters so lovingly, she would give anything to have someone to write to).

Biggest Surprise:
A Loud Lie is Better Then a Silent Truth. For all the Firefly stories I've done, I've never written River POV before. I really have no clue where this came from.

Hardest to Write:
Shake, Rattle, Roll. I love the idea of Juliet and Paris. He is the faithful, constant one (I really think that if they lived, Romeo would have been screwing around after a month). But the words never sounded quite right once I put them on paper (which is why I still haven't posted it).
