So Bush is going to open up the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and "lend" the oil companies some of the national stockpile. Big deal...we still are lacking somewhere around 20% of our refining capacity, and something like 25% of our refined-product transport capacity. At the least, the oil companies could take us out to dinner or get us drunk or something before they give us the screwing we're about to get.
As I commented to
kansaschica, I'm betting that two forms of transport show a huge increase in popularity: mopeds and horses. (I should probably add bicycles to that list.) I'd really like to see intercity mass transit pick up too, but I'm not going to hold my breath over that...startup costs are way too high.
Meanwhile, I'm stuck in a temp job making a whopping $7/hour...if I'm really lucky, it'll cover my fuel costs on a weekly basis, and maybe my car payment too. But clothing? Discretionary funds? Not gonna happen. I need to find something that pays well and lets me telecommute, but that ain't gonna happen either, not until I get my degree and a few certifications. And that's at least two years down the road.
Yep, the Alan's venting again. Raincoats and umbrellas are available for rent from the vendor's stand to the immediate right of the entrance. One per customer, please.
I'm tired. So I'm going to bed. And for once, I think I'm going to turn the pager off. It's that kind of a night.
'Night.
