Across the Bridge

Apr 15, 2014 05:45

After refusing food since Saturday, Dinah refused water yesterday. I knew she'd be crossing the Bridge very soon. So I held her on my lap for a while, and she purred quietly and let me stroke her fur. When we went to bed, I put her in her favorite spot by my desk, gave her a gentle skritch along the cheek and under the chin, and kissed her good night.

This morning, I found her body in front of the stove. She'd crawled there sometime in the night, and left her failed body behind as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

I'd decided last night that if she was still here this morning I'd take her to the local vet and have them end her pain, but she left this world on her terms, not on anyone else's. I'll still be going to the vet's office this morning, but to ask them to properly handle her.

Rest well, Dinah, and when you're ready, may you return in a new body to a new family in need of your love.
