Happy birthday (yesterday) to Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (1815-1852), the world's first computer programmer. She was the only legitimate child of poet Lord (George Gordon) Byron, and while working with Charles Babbage on his "analytical engine", was credited with the development of the first algorithm intended for machine processing.
