The song of the Captives (Part 1)
From the caves off the side of the perilous cliffs of youth he arose
He'd found himself lost deep in the caverns of childhood heartache
There in the dark stumbling and fumbling the boy's hands found the torch
The fires of Forgiveness lit the caves depths and shown the way
So out from His Youth, from this place filled with the horrors of his past
The man found his friend there, the War Horse of self Love
Every good thing imagined and needed was there strapped to the saddle
All He had to do was climb on and strap himself in with the Truth
A terrifying scream, terrifying only to the beasts of anguish and despair, pierced the night
This was no boy stumbling and fumbling through the night
No. Atop the horse carrying the light of forgiveness was The Man made whole
The man put away his torch and reached... for his sword
Outside the cave a huddled mass of angry beasts awaited
They had been there gathered since his birth, waiting for the day the boy would emerge
Covered in the debris of broken promises and the mire of bitterness they groaned songs of hatred
In this moment though, the battle cry rang through them... and there was not to do but flee
The Man did not give chase for vengeance was not his to give
Home awaited in the distance, the mountain far off but yet finally within reach
A song called to him from the woods, the hymn of his mentor, the author of all Good things
His eyes found the path, his sword found the belt, the steed found speed, and they lit off together
The crunch of leaves under the stallions feet crackles
From close by into the night the sound of wind caresses the trees ripping leaves to the ground
There is a sharp cold cutting across his face as foot falls keep pace
The man knows he has miles upon miles to go until the warm fires of home greet him
The miles cannot dissuade him from the intent of his journey
The cold cannot discourage his soul from the longing he feels to the core
The night is far brighter than the cave he emerged from torch in hand
The Journey of life awaited him, and it was all that he had longed for since before his name had been given light by the Breath of God.
And all of those set free from the caves... wept with Joy at the sight of another captive's light piercing the night.
Onward... and again we go deep into this night with Joy
If the Truth be for us, then no darkness can stand against us
Let those who Love Truth set fire to the Night with their songs of Love
May all who find us on this Journey, Greet us with a joyful embrace
And all the Captives say... Amen once more.
