It truly was the sweltering dog days of summer here in Texas this year. In case the rest of the country and world wasn't aware, we had a major drought and record-breaking heatwave. I'm talkin' 108 and higher folks! It's been utterly miserable. I'm usually pretty heat-tolerant, but the weather this summer really felt oppressive and intolerable to me.
I've coped by ... well, um, staying inside a lot. And, um, running my air conditioner constantly. Lame? Yes! But what can I say? I guess I'm lame.
Rumor has it that a "cool" front will be drifting into Austin early next week. Highs are supposed to be in the upper 80s/lower90s, with nightime lows in the lower 60s!
But seriously, I've been teased enough with promises of rain and other exciting meteorological events. I'll believe it when I see it!
In other news, I'm unemployed. I think I mentioned that this was impending in a previous post, but it has now become reality. I've been half-heartedly job searching for a few months now, but nothing has come of it as of yet. I'm not entirely upset about that. Since I've been dating the beekeeper, I've really began to realize that I'm not happy in the 8-5 world either. I want to work for myself. I don't want to have a boss or an inflexible schedule or anything else. The beekeeper has his own business, and though it's still in the nascent stages, he's making it work and the future looks promising.
I really want to take this free time to explore my options and make my dreams a reality. I have a few ideas up my sleeve. I think I mentioned one here before (genealogical research), but I have a few other ideas too.
I've never been the best self-starter, but the thought of getting back into the monotonous 8-5 work world may be enough to light that fire under my arse that I desperately need. And how lucky that I'm dating an entrepreneur!
Neither Brandon or I expect or really desire to get rich from any of our businesses; we simply would like to live the life we want on our own terms.
On another note, I am now the owner of a cat! She's a tailless black and tan calico. I named her Humbug.
Humbug says hi.
