Mixed Bag

Well this week was filled with it's annoying ups and downs...

As some of you may know, I spent much of the last week putting together a poster for the annual graduate exhibition that was held today.  Since I had my dissertation release last semester, the dept. and the College of Liberal Arts decided in all their wisdom that I needed to participate to show to the public (re: judges) that we are giving back to the community.  Anyhow, I made up a really nice poster, and brave the gathering Obama crowd, which had started forming downtown, to get to the HUB.  There was a little boxed lunch nicely stocked full of roast beef sandwiches, cookies and a disgusting looking but actually rather tasty pasta salad; and the whole event had a nice congenial atmosphere.  Unfortunately, despite following T's usually sage-worthy advice, I apparently drew the vaudeville show of judges including an obvious CW buff, a woman trying to control her runaway 2yr old while listen to my talk, and one who I  wanted to hold a mirror under her nose to confirm that she was indeed breathing.  If you couldn't tell I didn't win--nor did I even place.  Curses!
Tell me what you all think by looking at it here.  Were the judges just smoking crack?

I then wandered outside to catch the closing remarks of Obama, who I couldn't actually see due to some strategically placed porta-potties.  Nor could I really hear him from the sidelines as the University had apparently gotten their speaker system from "String Cans are Good Enough 'R US."  *Sigh* I came home dejected and poured myself an RC cola and whiskey.

The good news was that Dr. B did stop by to see my poster and seemed highly pleased and even suggested putting it up in the office for others to see.
However, I got the best news of the week on Wed as I found out I have been offered the Scholars in Residence for the PA State Archives for this summer.  I get to go spend several weeks in Harrisburg while the state pays me $$$.  Whooo!  Take that judges!  The whole state thinks my research is interesting and worthy.
