Blame the Microfilm!
Yes indeed I realize that it has been almost a month since I last posted. I am currently blaming the microfilm reader at school. It seems that the more I stare at census data the less I want to go home and stare at my computer screen for lengthy periods.
So there's my excuse.
As an update, a few things have occurred on Planet mythrilsvane. Repeated trips to the orthopedics have confirmed that yours truly will be able to keep my foot, and I have abandoned the crutches--so if anyone needs a pair of slightly used let me know. Instead I now have to attend physical therapy for the next few weeks to limber up the tendons and ligaments in my ankle. I went for the initial appointment this week where they even gave me a nifty set of home exercises to do as well. Whoo.
I've also been spending countless hours going through census records looking for more of my vets. While its not quite like looking for a needle in a haystack--more like for one of those big bendy straws you get in a slurpy, it does become tedious. But at least my work for Erie Co, PA is finished. In April I'm planning to take a research trip and see what I can find in the archives/libraries up there.
Speaking of trips, I did get awesome news that I got into the West Point Summer Seminar for Military History this year. Rock on! I get to spend the month of June in NY at what T. described as a "fantasy camp," taking battlefield tours, getting free books, and handling actual firearms from around the world. At the end they even pay you $1800 all at the expense of Uncle Sam. So thanks everyone, yours truly will get to whoop it up courtesy of your tax dollars. Even better is that it ends on June 28 which gives me time to get down to Nags Head for SOTL Beach Week.
So that's where I've been and where I'll be going. I'll also get on the ball and do more updating for those of my readers that I have left. However I can pride myself on the fact that I have done more entries than AlienLovesPredator.
