So, January! You all know what that means, right? Time for the flood of Spring flower & seed catalogues to start rushing in! I have yet to finalize my main seed order, but the plants are all settled. Going into my third year of rooftop gardening I finally have a handle on what works and what doesn't in my space, so this season I had a much easier time picking new flowers that have the best chance of surviving and flourishing.
First up are a few repeats from last year--Daylilies (a new variety for me called
Daring Deception); a second
Baby Lilac Shrub (after a slow start the one I bought last year took off fabulously); and of course my beloved
Datura! Spring Hill Nurseries are selling their Datura for only $4.95 this year, so I ordered four. I'm going to get giant pots for them and put one in each corner of the roof.
But that, you are probably thinking to yourself at this point, surely cannot be all, is it? Of course not! In 2010 I am finally giving in to my desire to fill up all the remaining space on my roof with one thing and one thing only: ROSES! The ones that I've had for the past few years are always the strongest growers in my garden, and are one of the few plants that seem to have no trouble overwintering on that freezing balcony. So,
Blue Girl and the various minis are getting some company...
