I know that Ger and Dani are on Verizon, I am too. So, when mom got an email about Verizon un-opting people to share their information, I perked up. The email, as you might expect, was a tad long-winded and unnecessarily frightening, but I slogged through it. Distilled down, here's what it said.
Verizon sent out a pamphlet (unless you do things online, which mother and I do) that said you had the opportunity to opt-out of sharing your information with other companies that buys shit from Verizon. This is standard practice nowadays. I don't like that it's put on the consumer to do this shit. Anyway, either call an 800 number and get fucked by customer service, or go to Verizonwireless.com and try to find the button yourself. It's NOT easy.
Well, one guy did find it and showed links how to opt-out. Mother and I are now NOT sharing our information with anyone anymore.
The dude's blog with the info...
http://www.hyperorg.com/blogger/2009/03/07/tales-of-data-pirates-opting-out-of-verizons-open-ended-sharing/ Once you get in, it's just a couple radial buttons opting you out. No biggie, but they made it intentionally hard to find. I hate corporations, even when I like their product. :(
Ah well, still better than Sprint. Those people were just assholes. :P
