Election stuff

I'm a few days behind. First, thank you to all the wonderful Iowans who went out in record numbers to caucus. You showed the country what can happen when people actually participate in the process. Everyone spoke up for change. It's already disgusting how "change" has become the key word in every presidential hopeful's vocabulary. I'm getting sick of the word, but I'm particularly sick of hearing it from the candidates who weren't already preaching it before Iowa, and from the candidates who think "change" simply means the little things.

I'm coming down firmly on the side of Big Change, and I've (finally) decided Obama is the man to support. For a long time I was torn between Obama and Edwards. I have little doubt that Edwards would be a fine pres (from my perspective at least), and he has a bit more experience than Obama, but I've decided that if we're going to embrace change, we should give it a big bear hug and not just one of those slightly awkward man hugs. Obama is the bear hug, people.

Or so he seems...he is a politician, after all. There's the chance he could be telling us what we want to hear, and then when he's elected he'll back way off. There's a chance he's very sincere, but his lack of experience will prevent him from being terribly effective. He could decide to send us into Pakistan and create another mind-bogglingly ill-handled military situation that distracts everyone from the important stuff at home. There's no question about it, voting for Obama is a risk.

But it's a risk I think we need to take. Not a risk that would be okay to take, not a risk we should take, but a risk we need to take.
