The Perfect Gentleman

I have experienced the perfect gentleman.

We were at a job site in North Carolina when the sky opened up.  It was a torrential downpour.  He didn't want to run out to his car because he had to go to Home Depot and didn't want to be soaked as he walked through the store.  I was parked on the other side of the parking lot and didn't want to brave the elements at that moment.

We sat and talked for about thirty minutes when he said "why don't we try to make it to my truck and I'll drive you to your car."

We covered our heads with the paperwork and made the mad dash to his truck.

When we got to my car, it was in a pool of water up to the hub caps.

"You can't get out into that," he said.  "Let me go get something you can walk on."

"You don't have to do that," I answered.  "It's not going to hurt to get my feet wet."

"Don't be ridiculous."  He was adamant.  "Let me take care of this."

He drove back to the contruction area and got out of the truck.  I watched him dig through some of the debris and thought to myself he didn't want to get wet, but he's digging through the construction trash in the rain to find something so I won't get my feet wet.  I was amazed.

He loaded some wood in the truck and drove me back to my car.  He then used the wood to create a bridge fromt he passenger door of his truck to the drivers door to my car.  When he opened the door for me he said, "I'll hold the wood down so you don't trip."

I couldn't believe it.

He was kneeling in the pouring rain, holding wood down for me so I could walk over to my car without getting my feet wet.

I sat in the car for a few mintues thinking...I've just experienced the perfect gentleman.
