2016.06.03 Makai Ouji Review!

Jul 27, 2016 11:23

I'm slowly getting through these reviews and it's excting that after this one I'll only have like 2 left!! xD But anyway here is my review for Makai Ouji! Btw I highly recommend you read the manga and watch the anime!

I watched the anime about 3 months before I even saw the play and I bought my ticket for the play after seeing the anime (it's gold I swear!).

I wanted to see this because of Yone-chan <3 and as it got closer to the date of the show, I had become more aware of Masshu and so became excited to see him also! When the day finally came, I was so excited because I was going to see Yone on stage again (I'd last seen him in Show By Rock - see review here) as well as seeing Mashuu in the flesh for the first time! ^_^

Pre-Show

Although I have to say, I was a little worried before the show started because the row in front of me was completely empty!! Like wtf?!
Oh! Also, the stage is small and COMPLETELY slanted which obviously doesn't help my anxiety cos we ALL know how much anxiety I have during.... most.... stage plays xD

The Show

As the show started the Barphomet (played by Ken) came out of a side door and walked to the center of the room (where the two sets of seats split) and he walked down the aisle; me being right at the end of the row and the row in front of me being empty, he immediately saw me; I was intimidated cos y'know he's this Goat Butler God Thing xD and then he started singing.... oh my god.... the voice of an angel. I have NEVER heard a voice so perfect and so beautiful in the flesh before in my life... it was gorgeous! I was completely absorbed!

Holy shit I was so thoroughly entertained throughout the entire two hours that they went for!!! The visuals are great, the music was amazing! <- so many amazing songs and many of them were absolutely hilarious that I was wetting myself laughing the entire song several times. The songs were seriously either stupid, cheesy or amazing, and I laughed SO hard xD The comedy was amazing too! I don't think I ever stopped laughing in all honesty xD

Masshu as William was great! <3 He really suited the role - we all know he looks great with blonde hair anyway! And it was nice to see him do a .... not serious but his character is definitely serious and dry and it was interesting seeing him play William who clearly can't cope with the nonsense that is going xD I also really enjoyed his 'no running in the corridor!' gag that happened about three times ^_^

Also, Dantalion (played by Ayukawa Taiyou < how freaking beautiful is that name?!) is tall as fuuuu!!! Like... he's a giant! LOOK!! xD and because of his height, we obviously had some short jokes thrown around whenever he was with William xD poor Masshu... and there's one scene where Dantalion is like "Choose me as the Lord of Hell" and William obviously doesn't want to decide (that's the whole point of the story/manga) and Dantalion is like "You have two options 'yes' (he said this in English) or 'hai' (means yes in Japanese" and of course I died of laughter xD

With the story being Dantalion x William central we obviously had a lot of scenes with them together and they did some of the iconic scenes such as when Dantalion does his famous brides lift with William which made me a very happy girl! And there's another scene when Dantalion touches Williams face and of course I died *dead* and there was ANOTHER scene when it looked like William and Dantalion had kissed BUT it was just that Willaim had fainted/passed and my angel made it look like they were kissing xD god dammit!

BUT I have a negative about the Dantalion x William relationship; the lack of their development. In the anime we see this transition and this obvious change of heart where they begin to really start to accept each other and become friends and eventually recognise just how much they need each other as friends as well as how much William needs Dantalion to stay safe and just how big his role in hell is etc. and I felt like there was no real development between the characters in the stage. It just seemed like they met, Willaim wanted nothing to do with him the entire stage and then at the end he accepts Dantalion but like... they HAD so little time on stage together and I didn't really see a change in William's attitude at all that I felt I was missing a lot of the feels and felt their relationship didn't develop.

I was surprised how LITTLE of a role Yone-chan ended up having. He must've had like 20 minutes on stage total. I was also surprised at the role he was given. When I first heard he was doing Kamio, I was like 'he don't suit that role!' and then I saw his visual and I was like 'he don't suit that hair!' and then he got such little time on stage BUT when he was on stage, he definitely stole the moment! He had this 'eh?' joke going on because he never listened to the other characters and it was very funny indeed! He also has a beautiful voice <3 wish he'd had more time on stage BUT it makes sense because there was a lot that had to be cut out in order to keep it to a 2 hour play.

Speaking of jokes! The freaking butler! Seriously he had sheep/goat jokes ALL ober the place! And instead of saying 'yes' (which you can pronounce as 'ee' in Japanese) he would say 'meeeh' instead (like a sheep!) and I died to the ground in laughter every. freaking. time!

Now for the man who stole the entire play for me: Sitry a.k.a Kawaharada Takuya.... this boy!!! (Who turns out is older than me much to my surprise!) He was stunning! He was beautiful! He was cute! He can sing! Great action! Just omg give me give me give me. I quite like Sitry in the anime/manga too but his performance was just.... I'm in love <3 He got to speak in the curtain call a well and his voice is so cute and he acted so shy ^_^ so naturally after the stage ended I RAN to buy his bromides.

Literal quote from the day: And Sytri omg OMG OMG he's beautiful in the anime but damn!!!! The actor really made me love him.

Also he nearly rolled off stage! There's a final battle scene and (going back to the fact the stage is SMALL and SLANTED!) Sytri gets knocked out and he rolls away and he ended up with a good part of the right side of his body was off the stage and hanging off. My poor heart. But he got up quickly enough at the end so I felt better but seriously any more of his body hanging off and gravity would've dragged him off.

Oooohhh and for more of a visual comment; I loved the costumes! And I really enjoyed HOW they fought. The ensemble would have different coloured sheets (representing the demon's colours) and would use them as the attacks which was interesting! (I've noticed other stages have done something like this too!).

Please don't ask me to pick who sang the best!! I was impressed with Ken, Takuya, Yone, Seiya (WHO I didn't realise until today was the guy who played Isaac!) and everyone else!!

They've GOT to do a part two seriously!! ... right?! I mean it's clearly not over and they have SO much source material they can use!

---

Overall: There better be a part 2! OMG this was so good and so hilarious! The music was great and I loved the pillow song/scene the best! Everyone's voices were impressive and I completely fell for Takuya who played Sytri <3 I wish there had been more of a development between Dantalion and William though... but damn! Give me more!
