2016.07.15 Midsummer Night's Dream Review!

Jul 25, 2016 18:47

I watched this about two weeks ago. I'm not gunna explain the plot because, doesn't everyone know the plot? If not, you can simply go and wikipedia it.

If you didn't know, I love Shakespeare; while I'm no where near an expert on him or his plays or the language used in his plays, I've enjoyed everything of his, including adaptations. (I've read Romeo/Juliet, Hamlet, Merchant ofVenice, Much Ado About Nothing and a few others and I do intend to get to ALL his others xD)

OH also! If you have time after this review, check out my beautiful friend's review about the play too here. <3

Okay now for the review!

*4th row!

Izak was so freaking close so many times! When he first comes out in the beginning, it's all black so we don't see him come in and then this spotlight goes on him and he's like SO freaking close to me and he spots me straight away and I'm like 'oh no... does he remember me from Comic Jack when I ran into him after the show?!' xD and he kept looking over at me throughout the show when he was doing his thing, which meant he wanted to talk to me but because I was in the middle of a row, it would've been difficult. So instead he found an american which was in an aisle seat to talk to and he like stood there and went 'er.... Japanese?' he so cute how limited his English was xD 'I'm American,' (which just made me cringe... just ugh... Izaki come talk to me and we'll have a decent conversation in Japanese! Not this boring old fart on this aisle row who I swear to god was sat there with a recorder in his hand! -__-) and he replied 'I don't know!' and continued on to the next girl and went:

Where'd you come from?
Kanagawa
What do you recommend?
Shuumai (dumplings)
Kirai (I hate dumplings) xD

Izaki was so good with the adlibs <3 timing comedic timing and remarks were perfect!

Also there were two SUPER young kids when I went (overall they behaved pretty well but you could hear them groan and stuff throughout which isn't great cos it's a pretty silent play in a lot of parts) but whenever he was near them he would play with them a little and one of his jokes was like he went to them and said 'did you turn your phone off too?' xD and he would pull faces and if anything interesting happened on stage he would turn to them to show he reactions. He was so good with them which warmed my heart <3

Okay let's get to non-Izaki stuff cos it's clear obvious I have huge amounts of praise for him (once again) and while this WAS supposed to be the last time I go watch something FOR and BECAUSE OF him, he just impresses me every time and he energy just never ceases! (I'll get back to him later most likely but first a little break!)

*Shohei and Ikkei <3

Ikkei is freaking beautiful! I didn't even realise he was Hermia until like 15 minutes into the play! I was like 'he looks familiar... damn he's beautiful... wait... is that... Oishi?! Noooo!!! DAMN you look fine!' xD and I REALLY want his dress! It is an absolutely GORGEOUS dress and I would pay a ridiculous amount for someone to make me an exact copy <3 also I want his hair! Give me that beautiful long blonde braided hair too! But as actual hair, not a wig! xD

While we're talking about costumes, I found it super cute that Ikkei was wearing flats while Seiya had to wear heels under his dress xD

*Seiya (left) Ikkei (right). The beauties!

So as you can ALSO tell this was very traditional in a sense that it's an all male cast and we have (beautiful) men playing the women.

AND THE MEN! Not gunna lie I was in love with the guy playing Demitrius (who turns out is caled Yamauchi Keisuke!). I don't know what it was but his attitude and everything, I was so attracted to it! I was obviously very attracted to Shohei as well because duh, he's gorgeous xD

I felt this play was VERY dark which was quite surprising cos isn't the play originally part comedy? I felt the comedy parts were few and were mainly coming from Izaki, but yes the darkness of the play was something I didn't expect and I'm not saying it's a negative at all.

Oooh going back to Izaki (seriously just take a shot every time I mention him *cracks open own can of alcohol while writing*) his laugh! OMG it was SO good!!!

*Izaki can do no wrong

My heart did drop a little when he jumped up on the platform at one point and his shoe actually stood on his costume and I got a little worried for that split second that he'd fall over cos of it or the outfit would rip but he lifted his foot up quickly and pulled his costume back up so I could breathe xD

Another hilarious moment from Izaki was during the scene where Hermia and Shohei are asleep and he came back into the crowd and was like 'Have you seen Shohei? Do you know Shohei?' xD and he went over to him on the stage and I was keeping my eye on Shohei to see if he would crack a smile but he was completely professional ^_^

*Intermission* Yes there was a 15 minute intermission which I hadn't expected! So now to part two!

This fairy queen. OMG who is the guy who played her?! He was absolutely fabulous and so sexy! He freaking OWNED that role! I was completely convinced by him and his character! SO good! And I love that during his scenes there was a lot of use of red cloth and it added to the sexiness which is pretty hilarious cos the fairy queen is supposed to be in love with a guy who has a donkey head xD

And talking about this play being dark, it got EVEN darker after the intermission when Hermia, Helena and the boys were arguing and Shohei gets real into Hermia's face and gets super mean and the two girls start fighting against each other and Hermia is just so helpless. It was DARK. BUT, I couldn't take the scenes seriously because (take a shot!) Izaki was entertaining me so freaking much! He was like bang center stage and he looked like a little kid who was just in his element seeing these people's live crash around him and he was sucking it all in cos it was because of him and his mischief as to why their worlds were crumbling and his face was lit up and full of joy and the whole 'ooooo' face when you hear or witness gossip or like cat fights. Just.. I was wetting myself and had to try and stay quiet cos clearly everyone else was focused on the main four characters. Sorry but Izaki stole the entire scene! (Another shot!).

I also enjoyed towards the end when the King and Queen ride in on horses and it a nice olden style, they used two people as the horses! xD I really liked how the queen sat on the horse too. Btw how that boy is a boy... like DAMN he's gorgeous! And ALL his hair is real! AND he is super flexible and did some ballet just omg... too much for this world!

Strangely I enjoyed the rap that went on at the end (though it was a little long) especially when the main guy was trying to rap and he got it wrong and in perfect time he was like 'machigaete (I got it wrong)' and continued rapping xD

Some random things like: I really liked the chemistry between all the actors and it really came across in their characters I think. The ensemble were creepy but I quite enjoyed the creepy. Like when they surround the 4 MCs during their really dark scene, you can tell the fairies are stick close to them because they're creating this evil atmosphere and they're pulling the strings and influencing it all. And I felt guy for the one guy that had to carry that damn log pretty much the entire time! His poor muscles! Oooo the log spinning scene was both terrifying and fasnicating also! I really fell for Dimitrius too! << but this was a case of falling in love with the character and how the actor looks as the character cos out of his costume and makeup the actor is not my type.

Now I'll mention some negatives; I felt the beginning and ending dragged. The first opening scene is SO long, it's like a 20 minute sequence and it would've been good IF the ensemble hadn't been stomping around the stage the ENTIRE time. It was so distracting! I literally do not remember what anyone said in the massive scene cos like... they were so loud and RIGHT at the front! It was distracting. Another the ending; I enjoyed the rap but I felt like there were four endings which is a bit too much: there was everyone getting back to normal, THEN we had the wedding, THEN we had the massive rap story thing; THEN Pack comes at the end and is all like 'maybe this too was all a dream' and it felt a bit too much. I know all these endings are also in the original play but I think for audiences today, it maybe would've been better with everyone getting back to normal and quickly a 'and now we shall have a wedding' and the actor pretend to have a wedding while Pack says his final lines. I dunno maybe that's just me. But those are literally the only two negatives ^_^ OH! And there were no kisses -__- but Shohei his hold Ikkei's hand a few times <3

I'll admit, I cried. It's just something I do when I thorougly enjoy a play. It's a 'omg i had such an amazing time and I'm so thankful for all the effort and training you guys put into it!' type of crying and seriously every freaking time I go to a play (except maybe Fairy Tail cos we all know I was disappointed in that) I freaking cry!!

There were 2 curtain calls! ^_^

As I said this WAS suppose to be my last purposely Izaki play but... he keeps impressing me and I wanna see him try different roles in the future and I want to continue to see that amazing energy of his!

---

Overall: I really enjoyed this! It was dark, it had it's funny moments. I enjoyed the story. I really like how it was an all male cast and I'm super happy with how WELL the guys did the female roles! But Izaki definitely stole the show for me <3 He entertained me the most and I was laughing so hard at him!
