This was a ride of adlibs and craziness seriously...
I watched most (or all) of the anime before watching this - and I think I decided to watch this play because of.... Shouta? So I went in NOT knowing just how well known Tomoru is and I clearly went into it not knowing a thing about MakiChan (thus this began my love and discovery of him). I really enjoyed this! This'll be a little over the place as A. it's been months since I watched it B. my notes are pretty much NEVER in order C. I wanna get this done asap.
Firstly, I love how professionally unprofessional this stage was! Seriously like they had people in black body suits and dressed up as the dead teacher and talking animals etc. They also pulled the wombat and bad guy on and off stage. It was hilarious and a genius idea!
For example they made the play hilarious by putting the small evil beings on tiny platforms and on manekins xD
OH! One mistake I remember! It was right at the beginning when they're discussing in the club room. They were setting up chairs (I think) and Shouta knocked the chair over straight away by accident. BUT it was such perfectly timing with the comedy that it could've only been an accident xD
They sang the theme song (twice!) and I thoroughly enjoyed it but no goosebumps like I got when Dance with Devils sang theirs BUT I think if they did do a second stage I'd cry cos this time I defo know I like the anime AND the actors in it! <3
During the first major adlib part, they each had to say something. Don't remember Io and Yumotos but then it got to pink (who I now know if Ryuu-sama and the beautiful MakiChan) and he was like 'I love everyone one of you. I'll make all your hearts run... But... I can't make love to you all (and then something)' and this was strike one in my falling in love with both the character and the actor xD Shota was pissing himself for the rest of the adlibs after MakiChan's line (xD) while Aramaki was like 'why you taking so long?!' XD Green (who is actually blue and who I now know as Igarashi) was like 'he took so long. I'm bored' 'there's only two days left (of the play), I'm bored' XD 'むかつく' xD
I think Tomoru played Yumoto completely! Which now that I've seen him in a few more things since, I don't know why I was worried cos he's a VERY capable actor!
I fell for pink (you mean MakiChan Alex.) so badly!! And his cute knees!!! << Yep it was love at first knees.... turns out he runs everyday so no bloody wonder his legs attracted me even from 16 rows back!
This stage really made me wanna rewatch the anime again!! And then the musical again!!! Same effect as what Dance with Devils ded (I watched these two VERY close together so it's only naturally I'd mention both of them here and there)!!!! XD
The onsen scene did not disappoint!!!!! And I love how they were like
'if this was a play, how would they do it (get naked)?'
And then they were like 'well of course we can take the top half off. Oh Yumoto, you too!'
;But what about the bottom half, there's no way we'd take that off right?'
Then the lockers were pulled across the stage
'But... We're still wearing pants so that's okay!' So they took their pants off xD And slowly took socks off....
'But then what about the rest...'
A blurred sheet was pulled up and they 'took their underwear off' and jump into the onsen xD
Then later, the guy to the far left goes to jump out but he hadn't pulled his pants up properly or in time so shot RIGHT back down. Shouta (and the audience) were dying xD they all had nude pants on underneath anyway so it's not as bad as if he really didn't have pant on. That would've been a shock for everyone! xD
I guess I should talk about the plot no? The basics follow exactly the same as the anime: 5 boys are chosen to become sailor sisters- I mean Battle Lovers and the three other guys are the bad guys who turn the other students into the evil fighting monters. BUT the new part of this was the story of the tanuki king. and the 5 boys join the theater club at school and have to perform this play. Another quick note; I like how quickly they got through the introduction of the characters and the battl lovers concept really quickly so they could get on with the hilarity xD
When they first joined the theater club the enact parts of The Lion King and Annie (with Tomoru in the Annie dress and singing it xD) so good!
Another point of the play with adlibs was (I don't remember when) but it ended up being during one of their theater group sessions and they had this back and forth going on. I think this battle was between... MakiChan and Shouta... but I could be wrong:
'Haagen Dazs!
So?
It's delicious!
Yeah it's delicious!
It's my favourite!
I recommend cookies and cream!'
Well I lost it after that! It was so fast paced and on point - perfectly adlibbing!
Then one of the guys explained the tanuki king's story which they then decided to reenact and omg Igarashi and Ochi's kissed!! XD
When they were doing their theater exercises they had to do the alphabet to get their vocal cords going so:
A I U E O (Igarashi(?) said it so quiet xD)
Ka ki ku Ke ko was even quieter xD
And then he yelled that he couldn't yell xD
One of the guys immedaitely went "This is the first time we've heard him yell so loud!" XD once again I was dead.
Another wonderful example of the professional unprofessionalism of this play was when the theater captain got targeted the Elites and got hit by the thorn, THEN three people came on stage (in their full body black suits) to give him his hat, weapon and script xD cos he was a screenwriter villain xD so funny xD I'm laughing now!
OMG!!!! the transformation scene was so good!! XD they pulled down a massive screen and did a video of it!! ^_^ and of course we were ALL screaming cos the boys are 'naked' at one point when they transform xD
And how could I forget Maechan and Co's adlib scene! It was hilarious!
"You're not good at adlib are you?" (I think this was Kashiwagi Souta, the pink haired guy)
Mae-Chan: "No I'm not. Are you?"
"Let's do a family restaurant scene."
"Who's that?"
Maechan turns (it's supposed to be a ghost btw) "..... Wai..."
Maechan quickly got down on one knee in shame xD
One thing I wanted more of was their battle uniforms: I wish they'd been in their battle uniforms longer <3
Another random notes I seem to have: OMG Maechan/Kinchan was mad at Ochi for when Ochi had betrayed him and played as Nobunaga in a play once xD bwahaha but all was forgiven and they became friends again... I think xD
Once the play finished I ran back out to buy Ryuu's/MakiChans bromides xD and THUS I fell in love and still am xD
---
This was so hilarious and professionally unprofessional and I'm SO glad I broke last week and preordered the DVD (which comes out on Thursday!) cos I seriously wanna see this again! I hope they do a second stage in the future! It was so much fun and swear to go 50% of it was adlibbed xD
