Jack and Ianto walked into the hub, Jack shaking his head and laughing, “I swear, I’ve never seen two more bottomless pits. They are going to eat us out of house and home.”

Ianto shook his head, smirking, “I would suggest letting Owen stay with Gwen or the boys, but I think separating the two would be a bad idea at this point.” He nodded at the team as he headed towards the archives. They were still a mess after Jack tore them apart looking for a way to return the two to normal. Since the kids started staying at the manor in the afternoon, he found that it was easier to get some progress made.

Gwen shook her head at the men. “If you two need a break from them, you could always ask. I’m sure Rhys wouldn’t mind having them over once in a while. He’s really showing how good he is with kids.”

Jack laughed. “I’ll keep that in mind, but this weekend Devon insisted they come and spend with her and twins at their flat.”

“How have they taken to the afternoons by themselves?”

“Not surprisingly, I think they enjoy it more than we enjoy the quiet,” He said, leaning against the office door, “we just left them running around playing tag in the trees. Where’s Jake?”

“Another Rift warning. It was near the hospital so Martha said she’d give him a hand with it.” Jack nodded, going into his office, once again wondering when the hell saving the world needed this much paperwork. Jake returned an hour later, drenched, Rose following him in, just as soaked.”Jesus, what did you two do? Run through the sprinklers?”

“It is chucking it down out there, Jack,” Jake answered, shrugging off his jacket, and heading to get him and Rose a towel. “I didn’t think it was even supposed to rain for another week or so, but it’s a mess.”

Jack raised an eyebrow. “It was supposed to be a sunny day today. I was actually beginning to think they’d gotten the weather right.”

“It just blew in, nobody was expecting it. One minute the sun is out, it's a coolish day, the next this storm is blowing in, hard. It's not just a rain storm,” Rose said, taking the towel from Jake gratefully, “it's a full on thunder storm.”

Gwen, curious at the sudden weather change, had pulled up the local weather website, and shook her head. “Jack, you might want to come look at this,” she said, pointing at the screen.

He walked over to look at the screen, “You are kidding me,” he said, grabbing for the phone, “Mickey! Get down here right now. We're about to be hit with a tornado.” Jack called everyone he could think of, telling them to get to cover, hoping he had enough time. When he called the Manor, though, he didn't get an answer. He tried each of the kids cell's but they both went to voicemail. He sighed, turning as Ianto came up from the archives. “Ianto, the kids aren't answering the phone, and I need to make sure they're safe. There's a tornado coming.”

“Hate to tell you boss,” Mickey said, coming through, dusting some glass off his shoulders, “it's already here. It just sent a tree. Not a branch, the whole tree into Jitters as I was heading down here.” Jake ran over to Mickey, checking his fiancee for injuries, even as the other man tried to reassure him that he was fine. “Jack, I know I don't know a hell of a lot about the climatology of the US, but I was pretty damn sure that tornados are rare in Pennsylvania, especially in the Autumn.”

Jack shook his head, “They don't. Maybe once a century, if that. How bad did the store get hit?”

Mickey shrugged, “Tree's blocking the entrance, but it's not a huge tree, once the storm passes, we could easily move it ourselves.”

Jack nodded with a sigh. “So much for checking up on the kids. I'm going to call Gray, hopefully Sharkbait is in better shape and he can get to them quicker. Storm shouldn't last too long, they never do.” He was pacing as he talk, waiting was the last thing he wanted to do when Owen and Lacey were alone during the storm.

Jack was right, and the storm was over in another five minutes, leavingjsut some drizzle and overcast day. He and Mickey were moving the tree out of the coffee shop when Ianto called him back downstairs. “Is it Lacey and Owen?”

Ianto nodded, looking concerned. “Gray just called from the manor. It's fine, bit of cosmetic damage, a few windows blown in but otherwise nothing to worry about,” he sighed, “Jack, the kids weren't there.”

“What?”

“They left a note on the kitchen table. The horse ran off, and they went after it. Which means...” He trailed off, no one needed him to finish that statement. They all knew that if the kids had chased after the horse, they had been out when the storm hit.
