In the past week I paid the $35 annual membership fee to join the official Duran Duran fan club. There is some pretty cool stuff to be seen and had there. Really great concert ticket buying opportunities too bad they are for concerts being held in Japan. LOL

The site has a forum so I decided to go bumming around there remembering my happy days at the forum on billyboyd.net. It was a disapointment. Most of the forum seemed to be devoted to chewing the same old stuff over and over again. People posting their pics from concerts. I'm not really into reading about other people's concert going experiences. What kills me is that there is so much about the band that should lead to interesting discussion. Case in point, Simon Le Bon posts on the website reviews of booke he has read. He is quite good at book reviews and has even been commended for it in several major publications. He has interesting taste and I am thrilled to have some hints on books I might like to read. I love the music he is a part of creating, his lyrics, so it stands to reason that I would like the same books. This alone should be enough, I would think, to get some interesting intelligent discussion going but know, most of that forum reads like the members are a bunch of fourteen year old girls. What is really sad is that most of the members are in there late thirties to early forties. Hey, I like drooling over Simon's handsome face as much as the next Duranie but I am also really interested in their minds. BB.net that place is not. At bb.net we had some interesting discussions about things along with our daily dose of gushing.

Today I went digging for more DD on you tube. I found still more video that I have not seen before. While I listen to their music I am struck at how sad the popular music industry has really gone down the tubes. For too long the "artists" had to be total eye candy with slick dance moves in order to get notice, meanwhile there has been a lot of really brilliant stuff going un-noticed, and not just Duran Duran. While watching the American Music Awards I was glad to see that there were quite a few groups that looked pretty much like scruffy geek boys that had a really great sound. Maybe the tides of popular music are changing. I hope so. I am tired of turning on the radio and hearing the most inane and annoying songs being played over and over again while really good music is being ignored.
