We survived! It was difficult the first two nights since K really missed his mom. It really made me question my ability to be a mother. He wouldn't let me follow his bedtime routine that he normally did with his mom. He kept saying to me "Not Mommy!!" Understandably. So DH and I decided to try something different after that - we let him sleep in the living room (instead of upstairs) and he basically fell asleep watching one of his favourite movies. No crying!! Not ideal but at least it was less stressful for the little guy.
The daytime was much easier since I took him on various excursions - Science Centre, playground, apple picking, etc. He got to spend lots of time w/ his cousin. He's such a sweet little boy. We took him to the toy store and he chose a set of tools. When we got home he wanted to upstairs with DH so they could play w/ their tools (DH's adult tools and K's kiddie tools). K even "helped" DH when he removed our bathroom window. We love him to pieces!
The week was a good glimpse on parenting. It was an eye opener. You have less freedom, your concerned more about the child than for your own self. DH did outstanding. He will be an excellent father. He had equal amounts of patience, authority, caring and fun.
One day..............
