Meet the newest member of our family, Sean the duppy pog. (That's puppy dog to you.)
As some of you may
remember, my kids and I went to visit a local animal shelter and met Sean a bit over a week ago. I'd seen this photo on
Petfinder.com, and simply fell in love with his cute little face. A visit to the shelter to meet him, and we were hooked. We needed to wait a few days for our application to be approved, and for him to be neutered, but a couple days ago, we got to bring him home with us.
We are SO lucky; he's an absolutely wonderful dog. He know that he was found as a stray, and from the condition of his coat (so matted that he needed to be shaved) that he had been neglected for awhile, but he must have had a home and a family at one point. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that he's already housetrained, that he walks well on a leash, and that he's picking up basic commands so easily that he must have learned them before.
My son has allergies, so we chose carefully. My research had said that the best choice in my son's case would be long-haired breeds as they shed less (poodles and Maltese were both on the list) and smaller dogs are better for the same reason (less body to shed from). Sean is a poodle/Maltese mix (a Maltipoo if you want to use the trendy name) and about the size of a miniature poodle. He's also 2-3 years old, which is good for us as we didn't really want to go through the puppy stage.
Kids: We want a puppy, but we don't want him to bite our fingers.
Kids: We want a puppy, but we don't want him to chew everything he can find.
Kids: We want a puppy, but we don't want him to pee/poop in the house.
Me: Then you don't really want a puppy. You want a dog who looks like a puppy.
And that's what we have. He's as small as my brother's lab was last year when she was a puppy, and his coat is soft and fuzzy like puppy fur. But he'll stay that way.
PS- Sean was the name given to him in the shelter, but we liked it, so Sean he'll remain.
