Saturday 6/20 at Midnight: DJs Phae, Liebchen and Lord Licorice!

Jun 17, 2009 21:08

Midnight has a great lineup this Saturday, with DJs Phae, Liebchen, and Lord Licorice in the booth, ChainChix vending, an extra admission discount opportunity (it's "cheap date night" again!), and much more. Details are below; and even if you can't make it out this week, be sure to look at the information regarding June 27 and July 4!

IN THE DJ BOOTH

The three DJs we've scheduled for June 20 will definitely keep you hopping right up until we reluctantly pull the plug at 2:45 a.m.:

* Phae -- Our chief resident is a master of old school, synthpop, and German tunes.

* Liebchen -- Also a member of XUBERX (www.myspace.com/xuberxnoise), she does sets that include the very best new scene music.

* Lord Licorice -- JSun from Dharmata 101 (www.myspace.com/dharmata101) spins "coldwave, electronica, new wave, terror EBM, futurepop, regular EBM, industrial rock," and more!

IN THE VENDOR CORNER

The always delightful Brittany and her crew from ChainChix will be over in the vendors corner this week, and you definitely should take a few minutes to look over their beautiful, handcrafted chainmaile jewelry. Don't see exactly what you'd like? They're always happy to discuss custom work as well.

THIS WEEK'S DRINK DEALS

For our over-21 attendees, there are some great alcohol specials on the 20th. First, from 9:00 until 10:00 p.m., the bartenders will be serving two-for-one beverages. Then, from 11:00 until last call, cut your bar tab by ordering one of the following (all prices are + tax): Bud Lights ($2.50); all Coronas and "rail drinks" (think generics, like Scotch & soda) for $4.00; and Captain & Cokes for $5.00. You can also ask your server for one of the specialties of the house, the "black death shooter," always $2.00.

PARTY FOR FREE OR CHEAP

At just $5.00, our cover is already a bargain; but there are ways to reduce or avoid it altogether. The first dozen folks in line each Saturday get in absolutely free, as does the winner of our "Question of the Week" contest (see our LJ, www.livejournal.com/community/dcmidnight for the "Question," posted at a random time on Thursday evening). Show your 2009 high school (must be 18) or college (includes faculty) ID at the cash table and you'll save $2.00.

The 20th is also our monthly "cheap date night." How's it work? Simple. Just show up before 10:30 p.m. with a friend, roomie, neighbor, or some random black-clad soul you met on the Metro, request the discount, and the two of you can enter for $7.00 total instead of $10.00.

WANT MORE? OKAY...

* ENTER THE DRAWING -- At some point before 12:00 find our literature table, fill out one of the slips there, and place it in the nearby cauldron. That gives you a chance to win a CD by Skinny Puppy, 23 Rainy Days, Espermachine, or the remarkable new disc by Red This Ever, "Selfless." We're also giving away another $10.00 coupon good for free food and/or non-alcoholic beverages. Starting this week, we'll pick five winners who'll have five minutes to show up and claim their prize, first come first pick. Good luck, and many thanks to Kerre, Daniel, and Radio-Active-Music.com for their donations!

* FREE CAKE & OTHER FOOD OPTIONS -- Until 1:00 a.m. you'll be able to order one of the meals, sandwiches, etc., on The Meeting Place's menu. Just check with your bartender. Save room for dessert, which is on us, though. There'll be cake right after 12:00 in honor of the b'days of Josh H. and Josh L.--and in honor of some other folks who may be joining us, too. Best wishes to Dark Gypsy, Natasha, Faith, Mark 12, Rachel, Christina, Michelle, Kylie, and Julieanne, plus Khalan (born in '07 and thus a bit too young to dance).

* THE WORD ON JUNE 27 & JULY 4 -- On Saturday the 27th we're hosting a live show by FGFC820 that you definitely won't want to miss. This N.Y.-based industrial act kicks ass!

Then on July 4 (ONLY!) Midnight will be closed so that The Meeting Place's staff can enjoy the holiday, and because, quite frankly, travel into and out of D.C. that evening is going to be a traffic nightmare. We'll have some recommendations of other events you can visit that weekend, including Dunkelheit on Friday and Art-O-Matic on Sunday. Eidolon Career Solutions will be hosting an interactive and hands-on workshop for writers, musicians, artists, etc., there that afternoon; and in the early evening, Bound, Dunkelheit, The Metro Underground, and others have booked Dark Electric Showcase II. It will include free live performances by Red This Ever, Shaell, and more. Look for full details in our next two mailings.

Midnight--we charge less and offer you lots more. Be there this Saturday for another great party!

-- Scott & the Midnight crew
