Birthdays and Angry E-mails

Happy Friday. I actually really need to do work this weekend, but first a quick update. Good news: I'm going to be able to work in the Writing Center and take the English elective I wanted to take. You see, since some idiots wanted to have class from 9:00-12:00 (which you're really not supposed to have class during community hour), I wasn't going to be able to attend the writing center meetings, which made me mad enough in itself. But then I signed up for my elective Tuesday night, and upon talking to my classmates the next day was reminded that I couldn't take the class (Texts and Countertexts) I really wanted to take because it met at 11:00 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. (Actually, first I wanted to take Nonfiction, but they said I couldn't take creative writing. But this has always been the literature class I most wanted to take if that didn't work out.) Anyway, it angered me beyond words that that class could screw me over so much I wouldn't be able to do either, plus it seemed inconsiderate to have our required class at a time that conflicted with one of our few choices of electives. So during our break in class I wrote an angry email to Nancy Albert (who actually also thinks we shouldn't have class during community hour, but does have power), Dr. Emert (my professor who I otherwise really like, but is being inflexible in this case), and Dr. Tolliver (the head of the MAT program who doesn't check his email, but why not try?). Apparently angry emails can be effective, because yesterday Dr. Emert emailed us and said he finally met with Nancy Albert, and his classes are now going to be on Monday and Wednesday nights. Anyway, I mostly said all that to say that it is scary how much of a thrill writing angry emails gives me. It really made me happy.

I suppose now is as good a time as any to recount my birthday happenings. Thursday I had my little birthday party. Diana, Kelly, Kimberly, Lauren, Victoria, and I went to Taco Mac for dinner, and I branched out and ate a turkey and swiss panini and even tried a new kind of drink. It was fun, and I got a free turtle ice cream cake. They also sang to me and got the waiter to join in, so that was special. After that we went to the play reading Kristin was producing and apparently directing and acting in. It was really funny and included free food. It was a little longer that we thought it would last, so most people went home after that, but Victoria and I did hang out with Philip and Layne. We even went to Waffle House and had some deep discussions. Then Victoria and I talked until 7:30 in the morning. (We kept trying to go to sleep, but it just wasn't working out.)

On Friday we got Zaxby's for lunch and watched Lilo and Stitch, which is as funny the 50th time as the first. I went home around 7:00. The next day I went shopping with my mom and we got some jeans and shirts. Then we met my dad and sister for dinner at Sydney's International Buffet. I mostly ate Chinese food because that's what I've been wanting, since I have too many friends here who don't like it so I never get to eat it. But they also had all kinds of food (seafood, American food, etc.), and it's a really nice, new place.

The next day after church we had my family dinner. I didn't start my homework til late that night, which inspired guilt.

My birthday was fun after I got out of class. We had our cheap Chick-fil-A night, and I got to see Kimberly and Lauren. Then I went to Cafe Intermezzo with Victoria, and Philip and Layne called and met us there later. I also got to play with my birthday toys, including playing my Wicked piano music and watching an episode of ALF season 3 with Victoria and Philip.

I think that's about enough for now. I am tired. (Though I guess I shouldn't be, since it's the morning.) I am starting my weekend homework off with the easy part and reading Alice in Wonderland. I even read a little bit yesterday. I was (sadly) really proud of myself.

Oh yeah, last night I had a dream that we were in class discussing the British Museum or something (and I think this was my education class), so we decided it would be best to take a day trip there. So we take a day trip to England (that day) and visit the museum, which is somehow magically next to Stonehenge, and I remember thinking that I didn't expect to come back that soon. Then there was a smoothie stand close to it that some people were going to go to before we left, but one girl had to give hers back when she figured out how much money it cost. At some point I found out that I had to do a 10 page paper (I think in a psychology class) that I didn't know about, on top of a 10 page paper I did know about, by Monday, and it was Sunday night. And we were in England. So overall, it was bizarre.
