Kitchen Plan

I received the kitchen plan last Friday, and hoped to study it over the weekend, but life got in the way. I finally went through it on Monday afternoon, and decided on a few changes. These will cost a little extra. I emailed the company, and also advised the model numbers of all the appliances. Their reply today indicated that they were unaware that I wanted benchtops as well, which will of course cost extra. I had thought the kitchen was working out surprisingly cheap, and well under budget. I think I might talk to Nick tomorrow before I order, as he originally suggested he could have them made here. Anyway, however it turns out, I need to get it happening soon.

Other than that, the Taxation Dept. finally refunded the money I paid on Les' return last year, whilst he was away. Not only did we get that back but Les got a refund as well, as due to my error in filling out the form the tax had been overcalculated. We are both happy, and so are our bank accounts.

Les was planning to use his money to replace the paving that was removed prior to the drains being laid. However, on Tuesday morning we got up to find that the gale force winds had blown down a section of the side fence, which will now need to be replaced. This was going to happen some time soon; we have had the fence propped up ever since we moved in 2 1/2 years ago. A fencing contractor called yesterday afternoon to look at the job and prepare a quote, which he will send in the mail. He turned out to be someone Les already knew, so Les feels happier about the whole thing. Once we get the quote I have been elected to negotiate with the neighbours, since I am more diplomatic. It depends on Ingrid and Richard whether they want to replace the fence right across their rear boundary, or perhaps just the rotten section. I'm thinking they might be happy to settle for the cheaper option.

The interviewer from the Menzies Institute called again today, for the last time. Someone had discovered their failure to get a consent form signed by me, so she brought that with her as well. She has become like a friend during the time she has been calling.

On Sunday we went to Les' stepson's new home for lunch. I'm impressed by the design, which is as low maintenance as possible, and has an atrium to maximise the heating from the sun, plus double glazing. The house also has magnificient views, being perched high on a steep hillside. I had been there once before, just after the slab had been poured, and hadn't realised just how large the area of the house is, I think we could pretty much fit our whole house into the area of the 1st floor, and there is a lower section just as large. Sorry, no pics.
