is progressing slowly. Yesterday I had an email with the plan attached, which of course wouldn't open on my Mac. I had asked for it to be mailed to me. I then had to ring interstate and ask again! I now wait with bated breath until next week. I have to thoroughly check the plan and approve it before work starts on the cabinets. In spite of this hitch they assured me I should have the cabinets in time for work to start in November.
In the meantime I have begun the application for natural gas to be connected to the house, and now that I have some idea of the cost (likely to be well in excess of $1,500) I'm wondering if it is worth it, and if the $1,500 covers connection to the back of the house, or only from the street to the side front, where the meter will be placed, with additional cost of a gasfitter to install the pipe from the meter to the kitchen. We had already purchased a Westinghouse gas stove last year, at the same time as the new frig. It is standing in the kitchen, still in its crate. Even though it supposedly has a wok burner, it doesn't look like anything other than a large gas burner. I'm beginning to think it would be better to sell it for half of the purchase price, and buy an electric stove instead. I'll have to discuss it with Les. Since I have lost interest in cooking in the past 2 1/2 years because of the difficulties involved it seems less important to have gas than it did. I don't know if my enthusiasm for cooking a good meal will ever return, except for the need to eat well in order to stay healthy. I'm getting to the stage where meals on wheels seems like a viable alternative, almost. You don't have to shop, carry it home, or cook it. Of course, the other problem is that we will need another trench dug, just when I thought it might be safe to start a garden.
Yesterday it was pleasantly warm so I worked in the back garden for a while. I started by picking up some of the sticks lying round the yard from the removal of the tree; I haven't finished this yet but my path to the clothes line is safer than it was. I got sidetracked and pulled weeds instead, since the soil had the right amount of dampness to make it an easy job. I pulled dozens of thistle seedlings, with memories of my attempts to remove them 2 years ago when the soil was dry and hard.
