National Poetry Month- April 06

Apr 06, 2014 17:53

It has been brought to my attention that it is national poetry month. I shall follow wordsofastory's lead and post a poem every day. One of my favorite English teachers had a unit within his Writing Fiction and Poetry class dedicated to song lyrics, so song lyrics will be included in this endeavor.

Lonesome Place
Langston Hughes

I got to leave this town.
It's a lonesome place.
Got to leave this town cause
It's a lonesome place.
A po', po' boy can't
Find a friendly face.

Goin' down to de river
Flowin' deep an' slow.
Goin' down to de river
Deep an' slow-
Cause there ain't no worries
Where de waters go.

I'm weary, weary,
Weary, as I can be.
Weary, weary,
Weary as can be.
This life's so weary,
'S' bout to overcome me.

poetry, random acts of poetry, poems, depression, life, national poetry month
