classifieds stink

I'm scanning the classifieds section of the newspaper online again. If I read "team player with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment" one more time, I think I am going to hurt someone.

culture, frustration, work

I can't stand corporate buzz words. I can't. They make me feel like the people using them are completely dishonest, non-credible, disingenuous fat heads who buy the clothes and talk the talk but have no other noteworthy qualities. They are obsessed with appearances (i.e., the appearance of professionalism) and when questioned about their intent when using such language they are generally at a loss to explain themselves.

It is normal and natural for specialised forums to practice an economy of language and steer toward specialised vocabulary , I can't argue against that. However, in most forums, specialised vocabulary actually means something.

I can't stand searching for a job. Even though the ads are wordy and descriptive, after reading them I have no fucking clue what the job is going to be like.

I guess I'm just not a team player, and so I therefore wouldn't be able to give 110% in a seamless environment or go over talking points with the leadership - definitely not outside the box thinking.

Eventually, a generation will come along that will destroy that language with blunt honesty, precision and fuck-all precision. I like to think that I'm in it. When the boss asks me what I'm thinking, I tell her. When they ask me about "pain points", I apologize and tell them I don't know what that means. Then I swiftly provide alternative vocabulary with fewer syllables and higher accuracy. All with a cannibal smile.

Thanks for your comment. I hope you are right about this generation turning things around.

Your description of how you handled the boss's question made me smile, and if memory serves it's been the only real one of the workday.
