Book List 2008

Jan 01, 2009 19:07

The books I read in 2008 were strictly fiction and almost entirely by male authors. In 2009 I not only want to read at least twenty works, but also add more female authors to the mix. Most of the books listed here are contemporary or modern works, but I would love to get in some canonical classics including Don Quijote and War and Peace (ambitious, no?) And though I have a penchant for fiction and novels, perhaps I should dabble in some non-fiction stuff too... but these are typically my escape from academic writing and, ya know, learning.

1. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind (January)
2. My Uncle Oswald by Roald Dahl (January)
3. The Plot Against America by Philip Roth (February)
4. Factotum by Charles Bukowski (February)
5. Oblivion: Stories by David Foster Wallace (February)
6. The Darling by Russell Banks (April)
7. The Plague by Albert Camus (May)
8. How We Are Hungry by Dave Eggers (May)
9. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov (May)
10. The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis (June)
11. A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole (July)
12. When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris (July)
13. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn (August)
14. The Shining by Stephen King (August)
15. Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo (November)
16. Atonement by Ian McEwan (December)

Good times! Right now I am a halfway through The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera and just started An American Dream by Norman Mailer which is so far splendid. More 2008 lists to come...
