Turning point

I'm done banding birds now, probably for life. It feels good. Now I have to engage myself in some serious tedium for the next day or two finishing up paperwork, then I will be truly done.

Then on to Austin for a vacation, then camping for a vacation, then Chicago for a vacation. I feel very spoiled. Its not often that I get to have 3 weeks of uninterrupted freedom.

I just want to talk to people other than my roommate, basically. The other day I was working in the field, pretty far from any established settlements, and there were these national guard soldiers training near our site. I was bored and lonely so I walked up to one and had a conversation with him. I don't know if that was OK or not. They were doing land navigation, with compasses and stuff. They looked very confused, though, or maybe what they were doing was very complex.
