Anyone able to help?

So, I'm trying to fill out my FAFSA Form, but the rules have changed. It USE to be that I was considered an Independent Student because my parents are unwilling to give me their information, refusing to help with college expense, and generally just suck as parents. But, apparently, things have changed.

In light of the things you've said about your family, I would stick it under "leaving home because of abusive situation" or whatever that said, and call it good. I doubt they will come back and ask for police reports or any such thing. Good luck, babe! <3

The only problem with that, is that my situation was never diagnosed as "abusive". And I still do have contact with my parents... At least to a certain degree. I really, really, really don't want to break anything even remotely considered federal law. :S

OH god, your Tom icon *whimpers* Love that man.

Anyway, so my next suggestion would be to contact the school you're going to go to. Talk to someone in financial aid and see what they say. :)

Me too. I'm so freaking worried about him! :(

I think I'm gonna talk to see if I can talk to my counselor tomorrow about it. I think it'll help that I'm registered at Kirkwood as an independent student. And they should have my statement on file that I had to make a year ago.

I would contact a FAFSA representative and ask him or her, explaining that while you are aware of your parents' location (i.e. residence, home phone number, email address), they are unwilling to give the proper information and/or are unwilling to maintain contact to the extent needed for you to receive the necessary information.

If they still give you trouble, I can contact my parents and ask (my father is President Elect of the ***** Bar Association and my mother represents one of the largest cities in Virginia; both are attorneys.) for their opinions.

I sent them an email already; I'm just waiting for a response.

Thank you so much for offering the help! Its very nice of you, especially considering you don't really know me very well. :) If they give me more problems, I'll definately ask.

*hugs*

FAFSA forms suck ass! anywho, I was going to suggest the "abusive home" option as well. But looks like someone beat me to it. Hope everything works out for you! *huggles*
