my train voyage comes to an end

between parry sound and toronto
7:30pm, monday october 30

our last dinner was wonderful. religion, politics, world issues, all openly and lovingly and respectfully discussed. i have had the pleasure of sitting with a progressive reverend and his wife, and an mp. rev. r is really an amazing man. he also solved my tipping problem, he felt that we should each leave 10$, meaning 10 each for me and nathan and 20 for him and his wife. and that it should be left at the end of the trip, with the head steward. this, he felt was the appropriate expression of gratitude without being too much. i really appreciate open informative people.
we discussed zionism, palestine, the world bank and the american presidential race, with no raised tempers, with every opinion heard and respected and each idea granted and touched on with consideration and informed thought. really wonderful, thoughtful discussions. opinions based on experience, education and careful thought.
i hope to look him up, send him a letter. i hope i can find some tv programs and essays and papers he has written. really a delightful man. it is too bad he's retired, i would love to hear him preach.
i also hope to be able to locate nathan at least his office in parliament to send him a card. he was quite nice, thoughtful and earnest and i feel one ought to really encourage politicians who are nice.
eta in toronto is now 10pm. we have raced full throttle past georgian bay.
i find myself wondering if i can say "the train was late because we kept getting sidetracked" and have it taken literally.
i am eager to see the lights of home.
eager to be welcomed by my boyfriend to the apartment we will share.
i am sad to be passing through southern ontario in the dark. i was hoping to see lake simcoe and the bradford marsh.
i am sad i was the furthest north i have ever been, edmonton, in winter in a city known for it's crystal clear skies , 40 minutes from a national park with an official dark sky preserve -at the solar minimum. i will have to take a trip specially to the territories to see the auroras. during active solar years edmonton sees lots of auroras. i might miss the edmonton style bouffant hairdos. i look forward to food in restaurants being cheaper. and vegetarian.
i look forward to getting to know my neighbours at atlas 1 cafe, and at the local shops.

tomorrow will begin another new life for me.
i am so grateful to meaghan for inviting me out, and for all of ryan's love and support. thanks for all the new friends and new sights. i am so grateful for the new in-person friendships with mostly harmless and 606, who i didn't know very well before i got out here. there. out there.
i am already gone from my past. no longer in alberta. no longer going home to the desert castle. my present is a transition. my future is new. my future in toronto. and with daniel.
maybe i will get a new pet.
a rabbit. or a guinea pig.

love.
cats and rabbits.
pants.
a wombat.

home.
