2008 Music Recap, Day 3: I’m Chuck Bass (drum)

When considering a recap of my favorite music from this year-something I hadn’t done since 2005, The Last Great Year Of Indie Rock-it popped into my head that I should compile 31 songs and write about one a day for the whole of December. I'm sure this is supposed to be self-evident, but...

How did blogs ruin indie music?

Was it their over-saturating the already saturated?

That, plus accelerating the hype cycle (bands getting too big too fast, a la Vampire Weekend and Black Kids) and solidifying consensus. You'd think that more people having the outlet to express their opinion would allow for more varied view points, but since music blogs blew up, it would seem that most people just tow the line.

So blogs haven't necessarily ruined indie music, per se, rather they've re-shaped the way we discover that music and severely shortened the time span in which a musical act is allowed to develop.
