Carmel 2012: Point Lobos SNR

Jun 16, 2012 13:26

This turned out to be the most amazing day and we are grateful because it was a last minute decision to visit Point Lobos located in Carmel en route. Of course we didn't know this when we had our last wonderful breakfast at Treebones before checking out.

To our surprise, the whole area outside our yurt was filled with fog and we couldn't see a thing. It was a totally different experience from the previous glorious day. It was interesting driving through the fog and we had to be extra careful due to poor visibility.

As we departed from Big Sur, we left the fog behind as well and moved on to our next destination - Point Lobos. This place is truly a rare gem and we ended up spending almost the whole day here because there was so much to see and do. We did several hiking trails, saw several sea otters (my favourite sea animal), harbour seal and sea lions as well as whales in the distance! What luck! We also checked out the tidal pools and cypress grove and learn to identify poison oak, visited the whaler museum to get acquainted with the history. We even took a wrong turn and ended up taking a long way back and I didn't sulk because it was such a lovely walk. Hah!

So yes, Point Lobos was the perfect end to our lovely and refreshing getaway. I love being in nature.

The fierce and strong waves carving the rock.

Here's one. Not a great pic as that's the best our camera can zoom in.
