When we visited Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea
three years ago, we didn't make it to
Big Sur. It has always been on our mind that we should return and we finally did last March. The drive there took about three plus hours but the scenery was so breathtakingly beautiful that we didn't quite mind it. Following an intense work trip for Stvn, it was the perfect short getaway for us to recuperate and spend some time in nature. It worked!
We had a pit stop at
Nepenthe for lunch. The restaurant offers a great view and the atmosphere there is cozy and warm. Food was decent as well. Couple of stops were made at the vista points to try to capture the raw and stunning beauty in front of us. I say try because the real thing is always that much more beautiful. I was immediately calmed and uplifted by the gorgeous sight.
Before arriving at our resort, we visited
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park for couple of short hikes. McWay Falls is gorgeous and you can spend plenty of time just watching it next to the ocean and getting lost in your thoughts, which is exactly what I did. The wildflowers were blooming as well which enhanced the charm of this lovely place. I can feel myself getting more and more relaxed by the minute. Thank God for nature!
Big Sur gets my vote for the most spectacular coastline in Northern California. Magnificent!

The waterfall @Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. The water used to cover the entire beach. Not anymore after a major landslide.
All the white patches are flowers.
