Resolution: Try-a-new-recipe day

Apr 13, 2012 15:12

One of the resolutions I have for this year is to try a new recipe every fortnight. I love cookbooks and I have several that have been sitting on the shelf for the longest time. Thus, I hope to challenge myself with this resolution. Somehow, this hasn't quite worked out the way I wish because I always end up using a recipe that I surfed from the net. Makes me wonder why I even bother buying the cookbook in the first place. Anyhow, here's the roundup since the beginning of the year. I started in January with four, none in feb then three in March and two in April.

January

Shanghai Vegetable claypot rice - something that we always order when we eat at the restaurant and I decided that I shall try to recreate it.

Steamed Asari (Manila clams) with sake & mirin. My favourite thus far.

Peanut cookies - I needed a fix for CNY and decided to make my own. Could be better but decent enough.

Stir-Fry Shredded Sea Cucumber & Crab Meat With Eggs - Cooked this for cny lunch.

March

Fried shallots - okay not exactly a dish but very important condiment. I've tried making this previously and finally succeeded. Went really well with my fried bee hoon which I made the following day :)

Korean japchae.

Granola bars

April
Cooked the following for our anniversary dinner. Both dishes are from blog friends and turned out great. Hubby gave the thumbs up.

French onion soup - great flavour. Only tedious parts are peeling, chopping and caramelizing the onions. Worth the effort though.

Crab, prawn and cherry tomato pasta. Unique and delicious!

If you're interested in any of the recipes, drop me a comment.
