You hardly win when you fight against the element. On the second last day of our tour we were disappointed with the news that our plan to visit
Canyon de Chelly National Monument had to be canceled because of heavy snow. For safety reason we reluctantly agreed to move on to Las Vegas which was a whole day journey from where we were in Arizona. Another roadblock presented itself when we discovered that the interstate highway that we needed to take was closed and the Highway Patrol Officer couldn't tell us conclusively when it would reopen. It must have been a very stressful situation for the tour guide but kudos to him, he took charge and kept all us comfortable by parking the coach next to Safeway and Denny's where we can at least had our meal and whiled our time shopping. Four long hours later we finally got back on the road. Phew! With the exclusion of toilet break we were pretty much on the road that day and the next. At least nothing worse happened and reached Las Vegas in time for dinner and the much needed rest.
One stop worth mentioning was at Williams where it was an adventure in itself just walking to the bathroom. The snow was at least several inches thick and walking on fresh snow was a challenge since the wind was blowing furiously at the same time. Everywhere was white and it was such a gorgeous sight! If only it wasn't so cold. Notwithstanding the initial disappointment, we were really grateful that we've been so blessed and protected when we travel. It could have been much worse.
Snow almost as tall as I am. My cheek was absolutely pink from the cold.
Hello Las Vegas
