School's over! Totally failed my French final, but who gives a &*^#*^?! SCHOOL'S OVER, OH YEAH!

So I watched a movie called Schnectodoche, New York and it depressed the hell out of me. If the spelling is wrong, sue me. Phillip Seymour Hoffman starred in it as a stage director. It was confusing, extremely complex and unbelievably depressing. The main character wins the MacArthur genius grant where he is given a shit load of money to do something creative. He decides to use the grant to create something large. A play in a warehouse. He recreates the city outside and hires a whole lot of actors to act in it. Eventually, the actors start reenacting scenes from his own life, and the line between reality and fiction blurs. He hires someone to play him and his friends and family. Soon, they hire doppelgangers to play themselves and so on. There are scenes where their are 3 sets of the same people in the same place. It was really bizarre. Eventually, he hires someone to take his place as director and he takes her place as a maid. He becomes a minor character in his own life.

The concept is amazing. The amount of detail and effort put into this movie is astounding and I appreciate it so much. Unfortunately, the plot is muddled and confusing. The time period moves so rapidly, it's hard to determine how long something has been going on. And it is amazingly depressing. I was miserable until the next morning. I believe it was worth watching though. I learned so much and the movie really affected me, whether it was the director/writer's intention or not to make me completely miserable.
