TM 240: Fear
[Discuss an individual who has scared you]
The lack of light in the room throws shadow across his face. The only thing visible is his mouth and nose. He tilts his head up a little and his mouth disappears into shadow. He feels like his reflection, like he could slip into shadow with just a tilt of his head. Peter has been scared a lot in his life. He’s never been fearless and he’s never been the tough guy. That hasn’t changed just because he’s got powers. He’s still the same goth kid that got his ass kicked in high school, the same little boy that got pushed around on the playground. He’s still Peter and yet he’s scared of what else is inside. He’s scared of the man that wants to use his powers without restraint. He’s scared of the person inside of him that would kill and torture without regard to save those he loves. He knows it’s all inside of him, like the shadows in the mirror and he could slip back into them with just a nudge so he clings to the slice of light. As long as he’s got that, it’s enough to buoy him up and keep him from becoming the person inside.
At least that’s what he tells himself.
