Not half bad, kiddo

So, I wound up deans-listinting it this year. I raped my immunology class- 4.0- the hardest class in the micro department. This coming quarter will be my most absurdly difficult quarter- not one of my classes is non-science, and only one of them is under 400-level. Virology 450, Bacteriology 442, Biochemistry 441, and Neurobiology 301. I didn't buy a season's pass this year because of this quarter. That's how badly I anticipate it sucking.

Things aren't going terribly now. I started the new lab, and it's very different from my old one. The labs on main campus aren't nearly as well-funded or spacious as what I'm accustomed to. Lots of things don't work quite right, or funding for essentials like refrigerated centrifuges isn't there. You'd think the UW would do a little more for the health sciences building and programs- it's one of the biggest draws for students. That and computer science/graphic design programs... which has a really nice building that Kemeron showed me around last week. I also miss my old coworkers. Having 30 coworkers was a lot more fun than having 3. Tricia, Dowon, and Bill are fun, but I miss Laurie, Jon, Greg, Matt, and everyone else... except my old boss... and Cristian...

I had 5 Christmases this year. Mom's, Dad's, Mom's family, Dad's family, and my stepmom's family's. I've been working to avoid gift exchanges- I don't need more stuff, and neither do you. My brother and most of my cousins are on my side, and together we have swayed my mom and my dad's family. Ironically, my stepmom's family who I've met less than 10 times ever seem to know more about me and my interests than my actual family who have known me my whole life. I got Bunnahabhain 12-year single malt scotch and cooking supplies. From my mom's family I got a Washington T-shirt 2 sizes too big, a sewing kit (to go with my other two) and beef jerkey. The jerkey is great, though... see why I'm trying to abolish the gift-exchange? Also because I had a substantial fall in my income for October-December.

We'll see how this quarter pans out. I tend to make resolutions/goals at the beginning of every quarter... This quarter's are pretty much the same as always. Try to do dishes more than once a week, bike places unless it's legitimately pouring down rain, read a book or two, maybe keep up with the news, try to stay healthy and don't spend too much money, and study for tests at least a week in advance.
