Pictures from Belgrave Hall

Jun 19, 2009 20:20

I've gotten the pictures taken by others on the day we danced three different time periods at Belgrave Hall. I don't know why we always forget the camera! Anyway, there weren't any pictures of us dancing in regency, so you won't get to see my pretty yellow linen dress yet. However, we are dancing regency both this weekend and next weekend so pictures will emerge at some point. I do have a few pictures taken of me in my early 18th century mantua. Unfortunately, the pictures were all taken while dancing so none of them are particularly flattering, but I guess that is what you have to put up with when you are a poophead who always forgets the camera. :p (I think if you click on the pictures, you will get a bigger one)

I tried to pick a few that showed the mantua. Normally all of our demonstrations are a bit upper class, but this one was specifically supposed to be "common." So the mantua is done in linen. I used the Reconstructing History pattern RH708 and I really love it. The construction methods were new to me so there were times when I had to figure it out, but that was me not the pattern. This is the first time I have ever had a gown that was pleated to the body. It is harder to fit by myself, but I love the look and how comfortable it is. I really want to make another one in a nicer fabric for one of the Playford Balls they hold every 6 months or so. [edited to add: the yellow kirtle underneath the mantua was my own creation as I didn't have time to do the proper stays, stomacher, etc. But those will get done eventually.]

David is wearing the breeches and waistcoat that we purchased from Jas Townsend and Son. They really saved me and went out of their way to get this shipped the same day I ordered it. They are fantastic folks there. His clocked stockings are also from there but they aren't new. :p

Here is a picture of David and I in the garden at Belgrave Hall. The dress is one I had from last year, but I like it because it is my shortest day gown so it is easier for dancing on grass or uneven surfaces.

Here is a photo also in the garden of Saf (our naming daughter), Bryony (Saf's sis), David and Mel (Saf and Bryony's mother).

This is from the Butterfly Ball that we had a couple of months ago. I just included it because I think it is a very nice photo. That is Bryony with David. She just turned 15 and is a sweet girl. I'm currently in the process of making her a regency gown.
